Well, I have chosen these two beaches because I have visited and lived in both areas. Both areas have wonderful beaches, but each respective culture enjoy their beaches in very different ways. What makes it interesting for my study of humanities is that the former (Guam) was occupied by Japan after ww1 and is now a protectorate of the US since the second world war and Japan in some ways is and was occupied and protected by the US.

Japan and Guam have had a love hate relationship through most of the 20th century, with Guam being so dependent on Japanese tourism money that they have never been able to express their past grievances from their war time occupation. With the recent economic downturn the Japanese have been rediscovering their own beaches and traveling less and less to Guam. The US military continues to pump money into the island, but most Charrmoans on the island prefer less of the military money and more tourism. Do you think this is the right time for Guam to ask Japan for some economic help as kind of a I.O.U. for past wrongs or keep whoring their island and culture to the US military?
